In recent years, one of the most popular uses of hemp for health and wellbeing is hemp CBD supplements. While hemp CBD has been widely used for its variety of benefits, there is still much confusion around it. In honor of the 10th annual hemp history week, which will take place June 3-9, 2019, we hope to clear the air.
Hemp History Week is the largest educational campaign about hemp in the U.S. For 1 week a year, hundreds of hemp supporters come together to raise awareness about the environmental sustainability, health benefits, regenerative agriculture potential, and new technological applications of agricultural hemp.
CBD: Fact vs. Fiction
Myth #1: Hemp CBD can get you high
Fact: Taking hemp CBD will not cause any intoxicating, psychoactive effects. Hemp CBD oil contains significant amounts of fatty acids, plant sterols, and other nutritious cofactors, with very low levels of THC (less than 0.3%).
Myth #2: Hemp CBD works the same for each person, instantly
Fact: Each of us has a system in our bodies, called the endocannabinoid system, that works to balance our individual health needs. Cannabinoids, like CBD, whether from plants or within our bodies, doesn’t follow the traditional approach of “take two and call me in the morning”. Listen to your body’s natural rhythm and start low and slow to find your balance.
Myth #3: Hemp CBD is sedating
Fact: As we now know, everyone’s experience with hemp CBD is different. Some enjoy taking CBD before bed for a good night’s rest while others find it energizing – like a cup of tea. For many taking CBD, it does not affect their energy levels at all.
Myth #4: Using hemp CBD products will not cause you to fail a drug test
Fact: While it is uncommon to fail a drug test from hemp, it can happen. Hemp contains such low levels of THC that cannot get you “high” and usually cannot be detected. However, it is always best to use with caution. Anyone applying for or currently in a position that requires drug testing, should avoid ALL hemp CBD products, from any brand, to avoid any issues with testing.
Myth #5: Hemp CBD products are illegal
Fact: Thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill, the legality of CBD derived from agricultural hemp has never been stronger. This landmark piece of legislation placed agricultural hemp in the control of the US Department of Agriculture, and includes all its derivates in products, including hemp CBD.
