Pork is the most widely consumed meat in the world, and it’s not hard to see why. It is tender, juicy, and flavorful, and goes well in almost any savory dish.
However, when it comes to choosing your pork, not all options are created equal. Factory-farm-raised pork is typically drier and less tasty. It also tends to be packed with nasty antibiotics, hormones, and deworming agents. Additionally, the standard of life for “cube-farmed” pigs is poor, which affects the animals well-being and the quality of their meat.
That’s why we like to offer only sustainable, pasture-raised, antibiotic-free pork. These pigs are raised out in the sunshine, foraging for tubers, mushrooms, and insects just as they would in the wild. The animals are happier, and their meat is tastier and healthier.
We get it local whenever possible, forming partnerships with nearby farmers to get the best of the best. Many of our providers are located within an hour of the store – it doesn’t get much more local than that!
We are proud to announce we now also stock heritage pork products. These are ancestral breeds that can be traced back hundreds of years. Their meat is unique in flavor and consistency, providing a pork experience unlike any other.
Martindale’s also offers specialty ground wild boar. This meat comes from wild-caught hogs, which are an invasive species in much of the country. Not only is this meat tasty, sustainable, and ethically obtained, it helps solve a real problem. In the US, wild hogs cause up t0 $1.5 billion in damages every year! Wild boar is also a leaner alternative to regular pork, containing less fat and the same amount of protein.
