Simple Mills was founded by Katlin Smith when she was in her early 20s. Katlin was trying to cut sugar and processed foods out of her diet, but was disappointed by a lack of options. She decided to take matters into her own hands. Armed with an oven and numerous excel spreadsheets, she set about crafting recipes in her own kitchen.
She was amazed at how her new diet made her feel; gone was her chronic fatigue, her joint pain, and her seasonal allergies. Katlin decided to go all-in and commit to food full time. Since then her company has won multiple awards, including the University of Chicago’s New Venture Challenge and Chapman University’s California Dreamin’ Business Competition. “We believe food has the power to transform how you feel,” she says. “We’re passionate about harnessing that power.”
